Violinist Sarah Briggs moved to Northampton in the fall of 2006, and currently teaches at Amherst and Smith Colleges and the Deerfield Academy. She completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the Eastman School of Music, and received a MM at UT Austin. She was a fellow for two summers at Tanglewood and participated in the Heidelberg Opera Festival, the Bach Aria Festival, and Tafelmusik seminar and has been coached by members of the Juilliard and Clevelend Quartets, Louis Krasner, Gilbert Kalisch, Jerome Lowenthal and Jeanne Lamon.
She began her career as a member of the Charlotte Symphony, and was next tenured with the Colorado Symphony in Denver. She moved to Chicago in 1994 and performed with the Chicago and Milwaukee Symphonies, Concertanti di Chicago, toured Japan with the Chicago String Ensemble, and taught at the Merit Music Program and Sherwood Conservatory. She was Principal Second Violin with Central City Opera for several summers, and played two years with the Utah Symphony.
Before moving to MA, she lived in Ketchikan, Alaska, where her son was born, and then lived in Germany for nearly two years. She enjoys playing chamber music and has collaborated with colleagues in each of the many cities she has called home.
