I had wanted for some time to write a piece for the piano of intermediate technical difficulty that would exploit its capacity for certain percussive and bell-like sounds, a piece which would also exploit the piano’s extremes of loudness and softness. Elegy was written for, and is dedicated to, Monica Jakuc.
