According to Dana Maiben, the early 17th Century saw the first highly elaborated, virtuoso instrumental ensemble music in the thoroughbass tradition. Clifton J. Noble, Jr. Pays homage to this tradition in his Trio Sonatina, composed for Florentine Camerata on the occasion of its third anniversary in 1998.
